Online Event: Boston, a New Center for 17th-Century Dutch Cultural Heritage
Major Gifts of 114 Masterpieces to Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts.
In 2017, the van Otterloo and Weatherbie families joined together to donate their extraordinary collections of Dutch and Flemish art to the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA). As part of this transformative gift, the MFA established a new Center for Netherlandish Art (CNA), launching this year, which is an innovative research and learning platform dedicated to sharing Dutch and Flemish art with broad audiences, in Boston and beyond, and encouraging transatlantic dialogue.
Christopher Atkins, inaugural Van Otterloo-Weatherbie Director of the Center for Netherlandish Art will tell you about the MFA, this unprecedented initiative and his plans for bringing the CNA to life.
Antien Knaap, Art of Europe Curatorial Research Fellow, will present a behind-the-scenes look at several treasures from the collection, discussing their historical significance and relevancy to audiences today.
Special guest, Joost Taverne, Dutch Cultural Attaché to the U.S., will explain why the Dutch government is supporting the CNA and how art can bring us together.
