How do you describe your job to people outside the industry? 
We provide piece of mind to individuals and business owners when relocating their employees and families around the world.  As a full service moving company we also specialize in office moving locally or around the world and helping to ship special products to and from points all over the world.  I have moved households to Tazmania and computers servers to Nigeria.

Who are your main competitors and what differentiates you from the competition? What makes you unique?
We have domestic and international competitors who are good at what they do. We do suggest to our customers, as does the AMSA (American Moving and Storage Association) that when trying to get competitive proposals for relocation of any sort to only deal with bricks and mortar moving companies to avoid unscrupulous moving brokers.
I try to combine the organizational efficiencies of our company, our financial strength and my humanistic approach to each individual move. This allows Atlantic Relocation Systems to be the right choice for a quality relocation.

How was the business started?

Atlantic Relocation Systems, agent for Atlas Van Lines, was founded by Ted Alger in 1966 to provide quality relocation services to our customers. What started as a small locally owned and operated moving company has grown to be one of the largest and financially sound multi agent moving companies in the US and the only multi agent company headquartered in Atlanta.

How did you end up in Atlanta?
I was born and raised in the Atlanta area and most of my family still resides here.   I never found a good reason to leave

What is your number one business goal over the next year?
To continue to meet or exceed our customers expectations and to continue to grow our business through referrals from satisfied customers

What is the best advice you have received regarding doing business with Americans/Dutch?
American customers have a tendency to find a deal first and find value in the deal whereas I have found Dutch and other western European customers tend to look for confidence in the service and value. In the end, most customers regardless of their national origin are looking for value and piece of mind

Any other personal information you would like to share, e.g. hobbies, special interests, family etc…
I have played guitar since the age of 13 and while I decided not to pursue music professionally, I still enjoy playing music with others when time allows.  My first career was in the culinary field as a cook and ultimately a Chef both here in Atlanta and in Athens, GA. When I started a family I chose to find another calling that would afford more time with my children. In the end I seem to have found a calling in the service business and find pleasure in serving others whether in helping them prepare a meal for 300 or moving their household goods around the world.
