Joint Dutch-Flemish Economic Mission Planned for Atlanta in October
Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Flemish Minister-President Geert Bourgeois will head a joint economic mission to Atlanta, Georgia, in the Southeast of the United States, from October 5-7, 2015. They will be accompanied by a delegation of Dutch and Flemish businesses.
The United States is a key economic partner for both the Netherlands and Flanders. The Netherlands has been a fixture of top five investors in the US for years, and the US is the largest foreign investor in the Netherlands. The total value of trade between the two countries equaled €43 billion in 2013.
Dutch and Flemish companies can find major opportunities in the Southeast. Not only is Georgia one of the fastest-growing states in America, the country’s economic and demographic center of gravity is increasingly shifting to the Southeast. The center of this growth is Atlanta, which has the busiest passenger airport in the world. There are many opportunities for further cooperation, particularly in the fields of logistics, IT and cybersecurity.
This joint economic mission will further spotlight the Flemish-Dutch region, following an initial joint mission to Texas in 2013.
